When people meet Dr. Niamh Keinan, they often notice two things right away: her calm steadiness and her ability to hold complex stories with both precision and compassion. These qualities didn’t emerge by accident—they were shaped by two decades of work, study, lived experience, and a deep commitment to understanding the human mind through multiple lenses.
As the founder of Blue Sage Therapy Services in Winnipeg, Manitoba; Dr. Keinan has built a practice grounded in balance: the balance between science and intuition, between psychodynamic depth and behavioural clarity, between the stories we inherit and the ones we choose to write.

A Career Rooted in Advocacy and Understanding
Long before she became a Behavioural Health Provider, Clinical Traumatologist, Psychotherapist, and Certified Canadian Counsellor, Dr. Keinan began her academic journey studying World Religion and Women’s Studies at the University of Manitoba. Those early years shaped her understanding of identity, culture, and the social forces that shape mental health.
Her work with women‑focused NGOs and private care settings deepened her awareness of the barriers families face—particularly around employment, education, and emotional regulation. For 20 years, she has supported individuals and families in navigating these challenges with dignity and clarity.

A Personal Turning Point
In 2019, Dr. Keinan’s life shifted in a profound way when she was diagnosed with PTSD. Instead of stepping back from the field, she stepped further in—bringing her lived experience into her clinical work with honesty and courage.
This diagnosis became a catalyst. It sharpened her focus, expanded her empathy, and inspired her to pursue advanced training in trauma, including:
  • A Master’s in Counselling Psychology
  • A degree in Clinical Traumatology
  • Training in Cognitive and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy
  • Certification in Islamic Psychology
  • Multiple specialist mental health certifications
  • Enrollment in the Doctor of Behavioural Health (DBH) program
Her personal healing journey now informs her professional mission: to support others living with PTSD, mood disorders, and the long‑lasting wounds of narcissistic abuse.

Championing Balance in Psychodynamic Care
Dr. Keinan is known for her ability to integrate psychodynamic models with behavioural science. She understands that healing requires both insight and action—both the exploration of the past and the building of new patterns in the present.
Her approach is relational, trauma‑informed, and deeply attuned. Clients often describe her as someone who can hold complexity without judgment, offering a grounded presence that makes difficult work feel possible.

A Life Beyond the Therapy Room
While her professional accomplishments are extensive, Dr. Keinan’s life is also full of warmth, curiosity, and personality. She is:
  • An enthusiastic reader of British murder mysteries
  • A devoted sphynx‑cat lover
  • A wife to Dr. Keinan
  • A mother to six wonderful daughters
These roles enrich her understanding of family systems, resilience, and the everyday realities her clients navigate.

Looking Forward!

At Blue Sage Therapy, Dr. Keinan continues to expand her expertise while staying rooted in the values that have guided her from the beginning: compassion, balance, and a belief in the transformative power of integrated care.
Her journey is a reminder that healing is not linear, expertise is not static, and the most effective clinicians are those who bring both their knowledge and their humanity into the room.
